The Training & Consultation Group
for therapists who work with high trauma couples
Working with high-trauma couples presents a particular set of challenges for therapists.
Our eight-session consultation group helps you become a trauma wise couple therapist.
Increase your capacity.
Refine case conceptualization.
Develop emotional integration.
Increase your confidence and comfort working with the most challenging couples.
The Material
We approach this work through a lens informed by Stan Tatkin’s Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy, Terry Real’s Relational Life Therapy, Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy, deliberate practice, somatic psychotherapy, Interpersonal Neurobiology, and attachment and polyvagal theories.
The Format
In this online group, we split time between didactic presentation, group discussion, and case consultation. Each session includes an overview of a concept or intervention for working with trauma in couple therapy. We dedicate the remainder of the time to participant case consultation. The group is limited to eight participants.
Participant Criteria
Participants should have a minimum of level one training in a couple therapy model such as PACT, EFT, RLT, Gottman, or Imago, two years of experience as a couple therapist, and a basic understanding of attachment and polyvagal theories.
Working with couples and complex trauma, exploring difficult cases and the related transference and countertransference stirs therapists' feelings and internal conflicts. We expect group members to have done their own personal therapy and to have support from friends, family, and colleagues outside the group. We require a financial commitment to all eight sessions, regardless of attendance.
